FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Helpful answers before you hang it out
Find out how HangWashing turns local weather into drying guidance, what accounts add and how alerts and privacy controls work.
Can I use HangWashing without an account?
Yes. You can enter a UK postcode or use an approximate device location to see the drying score, hourly conditions and seven-day outlook without signing in. An account is needed only for capabilities that must be saved or contact you later, such as synced locations, preferences and washing alerts.
How is the HangWashing drying score calculated?
The HangWashing Drying Engine combines humidity, sunshine, temperature and wind for each forecast hour. Rain risk and unsafe gusts then reduce the practical result. The score is designed specifically for outdoor washing rather than as a general weather rating.
How accurate are the estimated drying times?
They are indicative forecast estimates, not guarantees. HangWashing considers the selected washing types, forecast conditions and optional drying-space preferences, but fabric thickness, washing-machine spin speed, how closely items are hung and local shade can change the real drying time.
Why do load type and drying-space settings affect the estimate?
Light synthetic clothing normally releases water more quickly than towels, denim or bedding. Permanent shade, wind shelter and the type of line can also alter the sunshine and airflow that reach the washing. HangWashing uses the slowest selected category and any saved drying-space choices when refining its estimate.
At what humidity will washing struggle to dry?
There is no single humidity cut-off because temperature, wind, sunshine and fabric type also matter. Drying usually becomes progressively slower as relative humidity rises, particularly in still air. HangWashing assesses humidity together with the other conditions instead of relying on one fixed threshold.
What does a bring-it-in warning mean?
It identifies when rain or increasing evening humidity is expected to threaten washing that is already outside. If the recommended time has passed, HangWashing advises bringing it in now rather than displaying an expired deadline.
How often is the weather checked after I hang washing out?
When signed-in monitoring is active, HangWashing checks updated forecast conditions every 15 minutes for up to 12 hours. It can revise the likely-dry time and warn about approaching rain or evening re-damp risk.
How do email and device notifications work?
Signed-in users can enable email alerts, notifications on a supported device, or both. For active washing, an enabled device notification takes priority so the same event is not duplicated by email. Each device controls its own notification permission.
Why is entering a postcode better than using device location?
A postcode provides a consistent location for repeat forecasts. Browser location can be approximate, and HangWashing deliberately reduces its precision before using it. If device location is chosen, a nearby postcode can be saved or replaced with the actual postcode in the account window.
What information does HangWashing store?
Ordinary forecast use does not require an account. Location memory is optional, personal drying history is off by default, and account preferences and active monitoring data are stored only to provide the features selected. The Privacy page explains each category and how it can be removed.
Read the full privacy informationCan I install HangWashing like an app?
Yes. Supported Android browsers can install it or add it to the home screen. On iPhone and iPad, Safari offers Add to Home Screen from the Share menu. It remains the HangWashing website in an app-style window and does not gain extra access to the device.
Is HangWashing free?
At present, HangWashing forecasts and optional accounts are available without charge. Signing in unlocks saved preferences and alerts; it does not start a subscription.
